Description
Good Condition.
Up for auction is the Seneca Ray Stoddard photo of The Raquette Lake Hotel as it looked in 1889. The photo is of exceptional detail with a very high resolution and I believe it was printed from the original glass negative sometime in the 1930’s. This is not a modern reprint from a copy. We can usually tell this from the scans we make of the photo. Stoddard photos can be blown up and still maintain their crisp sharp image. The photo has been mounted on an 8″ by 10″ foam core backing to presserve the photos integrity. The pictures can be framed as is or made to fit in a smaller frame. The prints are photo quality very good condition with exceptional clarity. Raquette Lake is the source of the Raquette River in the Adirondack mountains of New York state, USA. It is near the community of Raquette Lake, New York. Raquette is the largest natural lake in the Adirondack Park. It has 99 miles (160km) of shroeline with pines and mountain bordering the lake. The Raquette River is the second longest river in the New York State behind the Hudson. Some of the cards we will be selling are from Senecca Ray Stoddard (1843-1917) who is best known for his photographs of the Adirondack Mountains, but he also was a cartographer, writer, poet, artist, traveler and lecturer. A sign painter by training, he turned to photography in his twenties. From his businesss base in Glens Falls he carried his cameras throuhout the region, capturing the vistas and scenes of Adirondack life over a span of forty years. The thousands of photographs that he published document not only the Adirondack wilderness but also the human story of the region.
